Artificial Insemination

Artificial Insemination

This is the simplest form of assisted reproduction. This involves depositing spermatozoids in the uterus at the moment of ovulation (approximately the 14th day of the cycle)

In order for the technique to be completely efficient, the ovary is gently stimulated so as to produce 1 or 2 follicles and thus perfectly controlling the moment of ovulation. On the same day sperm will be taken from the semen sample of the couple, eliminating all the immobile spermatozoids and stimulating the mobility of the rest.

Finally this is concentrated in a sterile environment and deposited in the uterus via a narrow tube. The process is painless and the patient can go home after resting for 10 minutes.

The artificial insemination may be "by husband" or "by donor" depending if the semen used is from the couple or from the donor selected from the sperm bank.
